Tchaikovsky’s Doll Trilogy

ABOUT THIS WORK

In his Album for the Young, Op. 39, Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky composed a series of concise and evocative pieces that, thanks to their technical simplicity and texture, adapt perfectly to the guitar without losing their character or musical integrity. Like other composers who created similar collections, Tchaikovsky was inspired by Robert Schumann’s Album for the Young.
Within this collection by Tchaikovsky we can find the three pieces that make up this publication, works that stand out for their dramatic quality and that the composer dedicated to the relationship between a child and their doll, creating a small narrative cycle:
1. The New Doll
2. The Sick Doll
3. The Doll’s Burial
This guitar transcription aims to preserve the essence of these works, allowing their beauty and emotional depth to shine through the instrument. By maintaining the integrity of the original pieces, it offers guitarists the opportunity to interpret and experience Tchaikovsky’s music in an authentic and accessible way, without losing the character that makes them so special.
